TAVIS SMILEY CONVENE A WEEKEND OF EXPERTS POST PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA’S FIRST STATE OF THE UNION SPEECH
WHO: Host of “Tavis Smiley” on PBS, “The Tavis Smiley Show from PRI” and author, Tavis Smiley and more than 30 African American thought leaders, opinion makers, scholars, analysts, elected officials and entertainers return to Los Angeles where the first conversation took place for a symposium entitled the “State of the Black Union: Making America As Good As Its Promise.
WHAT: This one-day symposium will focus attention on economic and social disparity in the Black community and convene top leaders to set the framework for a national agenda for African Americans. The 10th annual “State of the Black Union” will feature a list of distinguished African Americans from the political, business, grassroots and entertainment communities including Princeton professor Cornel West, assembly speaker Karen Bass, actor and civil rights activists Danny Glover and Reverend Jesse Jackson Sr., National Urban League president Marc Morial, college president Julianne Malveaux, U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), community leader Danny Bakewell and many others!
The “State of the Black Union” discussions will be moderated by Tavis Smiley and Raymond Brown around key issues such as health, education, economics, religion, articulating the African American agenda for President Obama and Congress, and what African Americans can do to improve the State of their communities.
